Couple who met over wrong phone number celebrate after walking down the aisle

When a 34-year-old man changed his phone number, little did he know that it would result in him finding ‘the one’.

Jade Scott was baffled after she started to receive random Snapchat messages to her new mobile from someone she didn’t know.

A friend then spotted a mystery man’s face had appeared on her WhatsApp profile photo – prompting her to do some digging.

Jade, 32 – who had recently got a new phone number – swiftly realised it was someone who was using her old digits.

She then sent a message to her old one and then started chatting to the new owner of it – Matthew, 34.

Weeks earlier he had made a split-second decision to switch his number – a decision that shaped both of their lives forever.

Within five days the pair met up for a coffee after striking up an unlikely friendship and then romance before he popped the question.

The couple had planned to get married in 2022 but they grew closer during the Covid-19 lockdowns so brought it forward.

But their first planned nuptials on June 18 had to be postponed due to pandemic restrictions.

The pair eventually tied the knot after their unlikely romance at the Black Horse Inn, in Thurnham, Kent, on August 26.

Administrator Jade said: “It was an amazing day, we are both so grateful. It just goes to show one decision has had such an important impact on our lives.”

The couple chose Michael Buble’s hit Everything for their first dance as a couple.

It was the song they had both revealed to each other that was their favourite track when they first met up.

The couple then shared a week-long honeymoon in Crantock, Cornwall.

Mum of daughter Elise, 11, Jade said the pandemic brought them even closer than they already were.

She was furloughed and had to get a new job and Matthew got a new job as a Tesco delivery driver.

“The lockdowns made us even closer as a couple,” she added. “We were spending so much extra time together.

“We decided we wanted to get married sooner We first planned for it to be on June 18 but we had to push it back because of Covid restrictions.

“The suppliers were all really good and let us change the date We didn’t lose any money on it.”

The happy couple had their ceremony and reception at the pub, with 70 guests in the day and 120 in the evening.

Their chance meeting came after Matthew had gone shopping with his cousin at Bluewater shopping centre, Dartford, Kent in May 2018.

He was in a phone shop and mentioned in passing he wanted to change his phone number and was persuaded to do it there and then.

Jade then got a Snapchat from the random number saying ‘Hiya’ followed by another saying ‘Hiya, how are you’?

She messaged back ‘Sorry who is this?’ and then got another back jokingly saying ‘It’s your wife’

“I said ‘No you are definitely not’ and they said ‘Is this not Matt?’

“They said ‘Sorry I must have the wrong number’.” Her best friend then said a man’s photo was showing up as her on WhatsApp.

Jade then messaged her old number and said ‘Hello…is this Matt?’ and he said ‘Yes…and you are?’

The pair agreed to meet up and fell in love with each other instantly. They moved in together in April 2019 and got engaged on Christmas Day that year.

Jade, of Maidstone, said: “Matthew made reference to how he met in his groom’s speech.

“He spoke about how he went to Bluewater.

“His life was to change forever after that decision. He said it was the best decision of his life.”
